October Afternoon

I have had a few pages go up recently at the October Afternoon blog. When I said that I was so excited to join their DT I really meant it!! I have been having lots of fun playing with their products, they are just so me that it makes it really easy & fun.

Here is the story//all about Maura and her transition to middle school

School Days//Darby and the start of kindergarten

Live Create//just a fun layout about the love of scrapbooking

Remember that we have challenges, sketches, inspiration, and tours of our workspaces every week at October Afternoon so make sure to pay us a visit!

Darby goes to school

This one, man she is something. She tries me like no other child has. She is super independent, very vocal about her wants & needs. It is pretty much her way or no way. She has been so excited for school, so I was very surprised that she had such issues with me leaving her at kindergarten, but we finally had a breakthrough yesterday. At drop off there were no tears, no crying, no screaming. She just got in line and walked into school. It was a good feeling, watching her find her way.

October Afternoon

I was beyond thrilled when I was asked to join the October Afternoon design team awhile ago, it had been very hard to keep it a secret for so long! It honestly is a dream come true, OA was one of my first loves when I started scrapping a long time ago and they still are.

To say that I am in good company is an understatement, I mean just take a look at the talent on this team

Here is a little sneak peek that I will have up on the blog soon

I hope you add the October Afternoon to regular blog reading because we have lots of fun posts planned and who knows maybe there is a new OA collection to be seen sometime soon ;)

Favorite Scrapper Blog Hop

Hi all! I am here with a fun post today! Last week the amazing Suz Mannecke tagged me as one of her favorite scrappers, she is a great one that Suz! If you don’t know her by now, you totally should. Visit her blog and check her out. Suz is one of the kindest people I know, she always a cheerleader for her friends, always there  with kind words and encouragement. She is so talented, she does layouts, cards, and even Project Life. Suz seems to have so much energy and love for life and it shows. It seems she is always off on some adventure, making memories with her friends and family. Then we all get to see the beautiful layouts she creates about all of the amazing things she has seen. We always joke that we can’t believe that we haven’t met in real life yet, but I know that we will some day!! It just has to happen, I know it is meant to be :)

So one of the fun parts of this blog hop is to answer some questions, so here we go

1. What am I working on right now? I have a few things that I am working on currently, a project for the Crate Paper blog, trying to get back on track with Project Life, and a very fun and exciting secret that I will be able to talk about very soon ;)
2. How long does it take me to create a project? Usually less than 2 hours, sometimes way less.
3. What are my favorite things to create with at the moment?I am really into watercolors at the moment.
4. How does my writing/creating process work?It almost always starts with the photo and then I go from there.
5. How do I become inspired and stay inspired?Pinterest of course! and online galleries and blogs. I feel so lucky to know so many crazy talented people who I get to look at their projects and I am so inspired!
6. What is my signature style?I like white space, typed journaling, stitching on all layouts!, focus on the photo and story.

Thank you so much Suz for tagging me for this blog hop, I am so honored to have been chosen by you!!

Now here are 3 of my favorite scrappers….

Emily Spahn//

Man ,if you don’t know Emily you must run to her blog right now! She is so talented! I have been lucky enough to get to know her and she is so sweet and funny! I think that really shows in her layouts. I love her clean style, she has a way with patterned paper that I envy. The focus of her layouts are the photos and I love that. When I first met Emily I couldn’t believe that she even knew who I was, I had been stalking her from afar and then when she said that she liked my pages I couldn’t believe it! Emily is another person that I would love to meet in real life, I just know that we would hit it off right away.

Shanna Noel//

I can’t even list all the ways that Shanna inspires me. She is the reason that I started experimenting with hybrid scrapping. I can’t even believe some of the things she creates, they are pure magic on paper. She is simply amazing! She puts her heart & soul on her layouts and it truly shows. She is such a champion for other people, always the first one with an encouraging word and showing off other people’s work on her blog. She is a great example of why I love this hobby so much, inspiring other people and not afraid to try new things.

Magdalena Hanell//

Magdalena is way cooler than I will ever be, she lives in Sweden and listens to heavy metal music, enough said. She is so eclectic in her scrapbooking, I  just love to see the way her mind works. She has been really getting into hybrid scraping recently, it has been so much fun to watch her grow into the amazing scrapper that she is today. Her style is all her own and I love that about her, I can pick out a Magdalena page right away!

Thanks again Suz for including me in this blog hop, it really means a lot to me :)

I am continuing on with the watercolor love from my previous post. If you had told me a year ago that I would be so interesting in playing with anything that involves a brush and paint I would have told you that you were crazy! I don’t consider myself artistic in the least and I am a horrible painter! but here we go….

I was so inspired by this post on Shimelle’s blog by Carson Riutta. I think it looks amazing!! So I decided to play around the other night.

 2014-08-09 20.02.59-2

I have this last one hanging right next to my desk in my craft room, but honestly I should probably just make about 100 copies and hang them all around the house. Some days I need all of the motivation I can get;)

Watercolor love

Watercolors are all the rage these days. I have been slowly trying them out here and there on projects. I finally jumped right in with this layout. :)

adeline-is-4I used the Silhouette Sketch Pens on watercolor paper for the stars. Then I watercolored them and then cut them out by hand. I think they just convey happiness and fun!

This is the watercolor set I used, but there are tons of fun ones out there!

She lifted me & it is awesome

Yep, weird title, huh?

I was super honored to have the amazing Melanie Louette scrap lift one of my pages for her Studio Calico gallery this month. I am a huge fan of her and her work, she is such a sweet person & an amazing scrapper! I love that she took inspiration from my layout and totally made it her own, to me that is what a scrap lift should be. I love that we all inspire each other and keep this awesome hobby going & going.

Big Picture Classes Giveaway!

Process banner 2

I am thrilled to be hosting a giveaway for the PROCESS class from Catherine Davis. I took this class last year during the first run, it was an amazing class! I can honestly say one of the best classes I have ever taken. Catherine is an amazing scrapbooker & Project Lifer. She has such a great eye for design and color.

About the Class

Looking to breathe new life into your scrapbook pages and Project Life layouts? Join “Design Editor” Catherine Davis for a comprehensive, 4-week exploration of PROCESS.
This broad, overview-style workshop tackles a little bit of everything, from digital die-cutting and design principles to typography and product techniques.
Through 21 informative videos and weekly magazine-quality handouts, Catherine will introduce you to her personal creative process—that series of choices it takes to go from “lightbulb moment” to finished layout.
In her signature, highly visual teaching style, she’ll share how she combines nearly two decades of professional design experience with her passion for scrapbooking and Project Life. You’ll learn how she:
• Edits hundreds of photos down to those that tell the right story, both professionally (which photo of Kate Middleton’s wedding ring to include in the Royal Wedding story?) and personally (which pics of her 4-year-old twin daughters to include on her latest page?)
• Uses Aperture and Photoshop Elements to organize and edit photos, use brushes, etc.
• Translates design principles like hierarchy and symmetry to scrapbooking
• Selects the right patterns and fonts for her pages
• Photographs her finished layouts beautiful for sharing online
