Studio Calico Cirque Reveal

I am here today to share with you the layouts that I made for the February SC Creative Team gallery.

You can shop for add-ons now if you are a subscriber (If you’re not, kit links will work after midnight EST) Remember, if you see “temporarily unavailable” under a kit, keep on watching. The SC shopping cart holds your items for 10 minutes as you shop, so many kits will become available as shoppers make their final decisions and check out.

M *main kit only

I love that massive wood veneer grid in the main scrapbook kit. I filled it in with some photos + paper for a super quick and easy layout.

Shine *main kit only

Yep, I loved the main kit so much I made another main kit only layout. Those big bold letters were just begging to be highlighted on a layout, so I did;)

Be Happy

I love the Little Things stamp set + watercolors. I will have a tutorial about this layout on the SC blog sometime next month.

Yeah Boy

I know when people saw so much pink in the kits, some of the freaked out a bit. But don’t worry there is plenty of “boy stuff” in those kits too!

Hello Girls

and the “girl stuff” too. Although I don’t see it as girl vs. boy, I will use blue for girls & pink for boys, it all works for me ;)

I used one the Silhouette cut files and used it as a mask for the watercolor, I think it turned out pretty cool.

Love This

Those big plastic circles from the main kit are so fun, they really made this page super easy.

Yes!! The return of the best alpha stamp set ever, Noah! and those little doggy sticky notes, so cute. There are cat ones too for those of you who require those as well;)

I love love love digital templates! This one is really cool. I printed out just parts of the template onto white cardstock and filled in with paper and embellishments.

PL spread 1

This year I am not doing weekly spreads, just fill up pages as I get enough photos + stories. I am using the new 9×12 albums & page protectors. Seems like it will be a great size for me.

I did a lot of stamping this month and I had 3 go to ink colors Glass Slipper, Inky Black, & Sunny Day.

Happy Shopping!!

Studio Calico Cirque Sneaks

Say that 5 times fast! February kits always seem to be a fave of mine, even though I am not a pink/lovey dovey/flowers person. So maybe I am and just not ready to admit it to myself. Anyway the kits are great as usual. Here are a few sneaks

and this is seriously just a snippet of my projects. I think I made 9 (NINE!) this month! I love the main scrapbook kit, it has such a cool graphic feel to it. Those big black letters were my fave! Reveal and presale are tomorrow, I hope you join us! and if you aren’t a subscriber yet this is the last day to get in on the $5 new sub deal. I personally subscribe to the PL kit and I love it! great for PL or to add to your other paper crafts.

1. Get Messy an art journaling challenge I am really excited to try this out this year. I oohed & ahhed over the journals that I saw last year. I love the concept, get your feelings out on paper, to use fun materials, it doesn’t have to be “pretty”. Sign up for their newsletter now and get some free prompts. The first one is really good, I can’t wait to get started.

After what seems like hours on Pinterest trying to find the type of pendant light I want for over the dining room table, I think I have finally settled on one. The Hektar pendant lamp from Ikea. There are tons of cool light fixtures out there, but the budget only allows for so much, so Ikea it is. And I am totally fine with that.

4.This page from the amazingly talented Celine Navarro. I can’t even believe that I get to be on 2 creative teams with her, I feel so not worthy!

Studio Calico 2015

I am so excited to start the new year with a new gig, a really BIG gig. If you have read this blog before you know that I am a big fan of the Studio Calico kit club, I have been a member for almost 4 years. It gives me endless inspiration and the forum is full of creative people who love to chat paper & glue, what could be better? I am super excited that starting in January, I am going to be on the Creative Team! Seriously still pinching myself. If you have been thinking about jumping in on the fun now is the perfect time. They have an amazing promotion going on right now.

It works with the Scrapbook, Card or Project Life monthly kit.

Waldorf just so happens to be my personal favorite ;)

I hope to see you around the Studio Calico message boards and please post your creations in the gallery!

I am was super happy when I was contacted by Maggie Massey to join in the fun that is Society 52. It is an Instagram scrapbook challenge, really cool, huh?! Every week they have a new challenge up on Monday, then on Thursday they throw you a twist and you need to incorporate that into your already done (or in progress) layout. I have played along a few times and I love it, keeps me on my toes ;) This week it is to create a 2 page layout. So here is my layout, minus the twist because that won’t be revealed until tomorrow!

Sticky Hug=lots & lots of washi tape, it just needed to be done.

I hope you find the time to play along with us this week. Please tag me on Instagram and show me your creation! @ginnyhughes

I got a jump-start on creating and made this super quick layout last night. I was inspired by the beautiful colors in this leaf I found in the driveway. I used the Words of Fall brushes and just printed it out on the patterned paper. Add some quick embellishments and call it done!

I am so excited for the new Studio Calico class for November, Paint.Plan.Play. I am super thrilled to be a part of the class as a contributor!  The class is being taught by

Ashley Goldberg, an amazing artist, product designer, and pattern maker.

Here are the details//

We’ve all experienced it – the frustration of sitting in front of a blank page for hours and still coming up empty. Well, we’ve got the remedy: cutting-edge artist Ashley Goldberg. Ashley’s come wielding her brush and paints to invite you into Paint.Plan.Play, an “art” class designed for scrapbookers. Grab the paints and brushes you’ve been collecting and let Ashley help you tap into the creativity you’ve got hiding inside yourself.

During the first half of Paint.Plan.Play, you’ll explore core painting techniques Ashley uses every day, then you will transition into putting those new skills to use in several projects. With Ashley’s expert guidance, you will learn how to take control of color, pattern, and text by using paint, collage, and various other mediums to add allure to all your paper crafting projects – from personally designed journal layouts to Project Life spreads. ‘

Paint.Plan.Play will begin on November 1st.

4 technique videos from Ashley sharing tips and tricks for painted backgrounds, mark making, stamping and working with patterned paper.
a PDF from Ashley sharing how she uses her painted pages to create an Art Planner.
Inspiration PDFs from our expert contributors sharing 10 ideas for using these paint techniques on art journal pages, layouts and Project Life® spreads.

October Afternoon

I have had a few pages go up recently at the October Afternoon blog. When I said that I was so excited to join their DT I really meant it!! I have been having lots of fun playing with their products, they are just so me that it makes it really easy & fun.

Here is the story//all about Maura and her transition to middle school

School Days//Darby and the start of kindergarten

Live Create//just a fun layout about the love of scrapbooking

Remember that we have challenges, sketches, inspiration, and tours of our workspaces every week at October Afternoon so make sure to pay us a visit!

Darby goes to school

This one, man she is something. She tries me like no other child has. She is super independent, very vocal about her wants & needs. It is pretty much her way or no way. She has been so excited for school, so I was very surprised that she had such issues with me leaving her at kindergarten, but we finally had a breakthrough yesterday. At drop off there were no tears, no crying, no screaming. She just got in line and walked into school. It was a good feeling, watching her find her way.
